Live Longer & Enjoy Life

“You are what you eat,” was the focus of a weekend health seminar conducted by a naturopath, Dr. Andrew Silas, at the Beulah Temple Seventh Day Adventist Church, April 8 – 10. The members of the church and the community were informed that the human body was created with mechanism to live forever. However, sin has impaired those mechanisms and someone’s lifestyle may cause further impairment or restoration of a body free of diseases.

Dr. Silas emphasized that because God has designed the body to defend itself and defeat diseases proper meal planning (pmp) is essential in maintaining a healthy body. He reminded his audience that the original diet of grains, fruits and vegetables that God has designed for humans is the best. His suggestion for a sample breakfast and lunch are as follows: Breakfast – fruits (eat these first), cooked cereal with added nuts and raisins. Lunch – fresh vegetable salad (eat these first), black bean roast, cooked brown rice, and steam vegetables.

The naturopath further stated, that if someone does not eat the way he or she should then the immune system is compromised and the body would not be able to effectively combat against the invasion of viruses and bacteria. He added that the effort that the body makes to free itself from these free radicals results in what is called disease.

For those who have already been suffering from diseases, he cautioned them to change their wrong habits of dietary intake. “In case of sickness,” he said, “herbs and medications may be taken, but if you do not change your lifestyle you will get sick again.” There is no doubt that the attendees at this seminar clearly understood that the body needs to be fed the way God designed it to be fed to prevent diseases and avoid premature death.

From demonstrating healthy principles at our Sabbath potluck to offering seminars on smoking cessation and stress free living we want to provide lots of ways for people to lead healthy and happy lives.
